what is a usb modem speed burst and theoretical speed?
Written by admin on March 31, 2010 – 8:31 am -I am planing to purchase a usb broadband for my laptop for my small business. I need a fast one for voip
Burst speed refers to the speed of data which can be transferred in a small amount of time, as opposed to continuous speed which refers to the speed the data can be transferred continuously.
Burst speed is almost always higher than continuous speed.
Theoretical speed refers to the highest speed (on paper) that the data can be transferred.
In reality, the theoretical speed is usually never reached.

Cisco VOIP and skype?
Written by admin on March 29, 2010 – 6:31 am -I run a small business and have Skype at my house and love it, i use it as my home phone and have a voip phone from Beklin running skype. But at my small buisness we’ve been using regular phones for 2 years now and hate having to use it because of its poor functionality features. We decited on investing on 3 Cisco 7970 VOIP phones and we were all wondering if Skype is compatible with them. And if not what other Voip services are out there.
skype for SIP is in beta
http://www.skype.com/business/products/pbx-systems/sip/
i would not rely on a beta product to operate my business on… i would not take you seriously as a customer, if you relied on the lowest common denominator for your communications…
there are many more reputable SIP providers…

Difference between small business and personal phone line plans for business use?
Written by admin on March 27, 2010 – 9:37 am -I’m running a small business out of my home (music lessons) and I would like to get a new phone number for the business. I use Vonage as my home phone service so I would like to add the second line through Vonage as well. An unlimited business line costs $50/mo but another personal line would be only $26/mo. The only real difference I see is that the business line comes with a free dedicated fax line, but someone free shouldn’t be doubling the price. Other phone business seem to charge significantly more for small business phone service too. Anyone know why? Why shouldn’t I just get a personal plan for my small business?
reason being is that it will include listing your business into several business directories worldwide.
Business volume is also higher.
Your caller ID will state your business name.
Steer clear of the whole thing, you don’t need it.
Grab a fax number for $9 /mo from RingCentral and call it a day.

can you help me improve our office telephone system.?
Written by admin on March 25, 2010 – 10:27 am -Hi, my boss asked me to to figure out a way to cut down drastically on our telephone expenses. Although I don’t handle telephone systems per say, I’m a computer IT guy and figure I can handle this.
We currently have a 30 year old dinosaur phone system supported by Avaia and it’s routing four phone lines from ATT..then a fifth dedicated fax line which goes to a computer with fax software. Total 5 telephones, it’s a small office.
My goal is to cut down the telephone lines to 2 or 3 as business is very slow (we only advertise one number too). I’m hoping to get rid of the whole telephone system (which looks like a big switchboard and currently takes up a large closet) and get rid of the avaya bill too..phones can be bought on ebay for cheap when they break…we’re only paying for Avaya to keep the dinosaur alive, and they don’t want to do it. Basically the only features we need in office are the ability to put calls on hold and the boss likes his speed dialing…intercom would be nice.
Any suggestions..what would you do? Links to telephone routers or voip or something would help. Thanks.
Here’s a link to some good VoIP equipment that might be able to do the trick:

anyone know of a braodband service in North Kaloocan that never gets below 250kbps? I need a consistant voip?
Written by admin on March 23, 2010 – 10:41 am -i have a small business and i cannot afford internet problems. I would pay extra for a most reliable connection that can provide speeds over 250 consistantly. I dont need 1.5 mb speeds, i just need enough for voip. The most important thing is consistancy even if at a dsl speed.
You can’t be assured of a minimum 250K at any given time. Since you are using it for business, better get a plan with static IP.

Are the Internet connections and VOIP on cruise ships reliable ?
Written by admin on March 21, 2010 – 1:32 pm -I have a small business that I need to send and receive phone calls a couple hours a day . Can I use a VOIP connection like Skype or Vonage ? Or is a cell phone a better option ? What expenses are involved ?
Our cruise sails for 7 days from Puerto Rico to the Southern Caribbean Islands . I would need to make and receive around 5 calls a day for 3-4 of the days .
Thank you for your help .
Internet connection was very slow the one time I ever purchased the internet package it was $100 for 200 min. It would use 4 min just signing on. I do not know about VOIP I am not sure if that is available. I know with a cell phone you need international calling on your plan and then it is whatever the cost is with your plan plus international roaming fees. You for sure dont want to use the ship phone in your room depending on the cruise line it runs around $9.95 per min I hope this helps.

Where can I outsource business class file server hosting for my small business?
Written by admin on March 19, 2010 – 12:32 pm -I outsource hosting for my Exchange server, SharePoint server, Web site server and soon hosted VoIP services. Now, I’d like to know if I can outsource my company’s file server to a hosted server. This would be for multiple users to access and synchronize files securely with collaboration, backup services, disaster recovery as well as location redundancy. Can you recommend a provider to me? Please tell me more about pros and cons, things to consider. Thanks!
Hi Steve,
Yes, it is possible to outsource your company’s file server. The fastest way to do so is to rent a fully managed dedicated server from an online company that specializes in offering such service. They can get you up and running within a few days.
Here are some must-have features to shop for:
1) At least 100Mbps bandwidth
2) Redundant or mirrored hard drives
3) Fully managed service
4) Off-server backup storage
The pros being that a fully managed firm takes care of patching and maintaining your server so you don’t have to hire personnel to do this job. Also, you don’t have to worry about the logistics involved in keeping a server cool and racked up in the office. The cons being there’s a monthly service fee involved when renting a dedicated server online.
Feel free to get in touch if you have any question or comment.
Cheers

Handlebars by Flobots?
Written by admin on March 17, 2010 – 11:23 am -I’m doing a project on the song
If you haven’t heard it here is a link to the song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waRtcBy_GMI
For my project i need to get others opinions of the song.
•Do the lyrics have any meanings?
•How does the song make others feel? (Ask people to listen and then ask their opinion.)
Here are the lyrics:
I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars
I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars
Look at me, look at me
hands in the air like it’s good to be
ALIVE
and I’m a famous rapper
even when the paths’re all crookedy
I can show you how to do-si-do
I can show you how to scratch a record
I can take apart the remote control
And I can almost put it back together
I can tie a knot in a cherry stem
I can tell you about Leif Ericson
I know all the words to "De Colores"
And "I’m Proud to be an American"
Me and my friend saw a platypus
Me and my friend made a comic book
And guess how long it took
I can do anything that I want cuz, look:
I can keep rhythm with no metronome
No metronome
No metronome
And I can see your face on the telephone
On the telephone
On the telephone
Look at me
Look at me
Just called to say that it’s good to be
ALIVE
In such a small world
I’m all curled up with a book to read
I can make money open up a thrift store
I can make a living off a magazine
I can design an engine sixty four
Miles to a gallon of gasoline
I can make new antibiotics
I can make computers survive aquatic conditions
I know how to run a business
I can make you wanna buy a product
Movers shakers and producers
Me and my friends understand the future
I see the strings that control the systems
I can do anything with no assistance
Cuz I can lead a nation with a microphone
With a microphone
With a microphone
And I can split the atom of a molecule
Of a molecule
Of a molecule
Look at me
Look at me
Driving and I won’t stop
And it feels so good to be
Alive and on top
My reach is global
My tower secure
My cause is noble
My power is pure
I can hand out a million vaccinations
Or let’em all die in exasperation
Have’em all healed of their lacerations
Have’em all killed by assassination
I can make anybody go to prison
Just because I don’t like’em and
I can do anything with no permission
I have it all under my command
Because I can guide a missile by satellite
By satellite
By satellite
And I can hit a target through a telescope
Through a telescope
Through a telescope
And I can end the planet in a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars
I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars
Thanks.
I loved the song even more when I saw the actual written lyrics. I don’t know the correct message of the song, but for some reason, I assume that the whole idea is how humans in general have that ambition to try and one up everyone and strive to have the satisfaction of being in power.
I mean, the song starts off with the guy bragging about being able to perform the simple task of riding a bike without handlebars, writing comic books, and knowing the words to songs. Then he moves on to stating his ability in a business aspect. By the end of the song, the subject brags how he can have the power over social/political global problems.
For some reason, I want to go with the song being a social and political message. I’m sure someone can give a better explanation than me, haha.

Would you please recommend a hosted VoIP solution for my small business?
Written by admin on March 15, 2010 – 12:24 pm -I’m ready for hosted VoIP at my office. I don’t have money to waste and I’m shopping for the best price and features for my dollar. I’m looking for less than $40 per month per user for the deluxe/full features plan. I’m looking at several companies. Ideally, there’s no (or few) minimum user requirements and no requirement for using this same company’s high-speed internet access, unless it’s better priced than my business cable internet. It must be a hosted solution. Are there any issues or items or fine print ("wish I would have known before") that we should consider before getting hosted VoIP? Any sites that rank national providers, features and pricing? Would you please recommend a hosted VoIP provider/solution for my small business? I could use the help in making the best decision.
Folks, this is for business, so I’m not looking for a free service and since it’s business class, there won’t be any issues with voice quality. I don’t have a residential internet speed here.
You can visit this site it has lots of great information on free voip calls
